Route Type: Lap.
This is a two-lap race, where the first 10 km present a more undulating and slightly tougher start.
The second half of the lap follows the old route fairly closely through Bedfordview with several small climbs between the 14 km and 17 km marks. The last few kilometres are mostly downhill past Gillooley’s Farm with a short sharp climb in the last kilometre before the finish.
The marathon incorporates two detours in the second lap to make the needed distance, so don’t visualise the second lap as an exact replica of the first. This race represents a good start to Comrades build-up with just enough hills and undulations to make you realise that a lot more training is needed in the next four months.
