The Weald Challenge Trail Races follow the long distance paths of the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way.
As the two long distance paths travel through East Sussex, the two paths run parallel in a northwards direction, not too far apart, with the two paths meeting at three points; Chiddingly, Blackboys, and the Ashdown Forest. The Weald Challenge Trail Races therefore take advantage of these three meeting points, resulting in the perfect distances for the 50km Ultra Trail, the Trail Marathon and the Trail Half Marathon. It was as if the Weald Challenge Trail Races were just 'meant to be'!
The start for all three races is at Chiddingly. The half marathon route heads north along the Wealdway to the meeting point at Blackboys, then returns south along the Vanguard Way back to Chiddingly. The 50km ultra trail route heads north along the Wealdway, all the way into the spectacular Ashdown Forest to the third meeting point within the Ashdown Forest, then returns south along the Vanguard Way back to Chiddingly. The trail marathon route heads north along the Wealdway, into the Ashdown Forest, but fortunately (due to the demands on the legs and lungs), or unfortunately (due to the spectacular views), the route doesn't reach the summit of the Ashdown Forest with it's open heathland. After entering the Ashdown Forest the trail marathon route heads east for a mile and a bit to join the Vanguard Way and then returns south back to Chiddingly.
The race routes are approximately 85% - 90% off-road.
